Visit Jamaica During the Pandemic - A GUIDE

I’ve kept my Instagram up to date with the new travels, but the #1 question I’ve been asked after visiting Jamaica, St Barths, and Mexico in one month is ‘what is it like?” The pandemic is making travel much more complicated, but it’s possible. I have continued to travel using as many safety precautions as possible while sharing places Americans can still visit. Most of these countries we are visiting rely on tourism to sustain themselves, so my goal is to share how we can safely and effectively go on vacation during these uncertain times.

What are the regulations?

Jamaica isn’t allowing tourists to visit the island and explore freely. You must stay on your hotel/villa/resort premises and can only leave if you have a dedicated reservation for an activity (such as taking out a boat or ziplining). In addition, large parties are prohibited over 6. Curfew as of December 2020 is 10pm.

What is open?

The main attraction in Negril is Ricks Cafe. They were open with limited seating, food was being served with performances and swimming was allowed. We took a catamaran out with our group and had a crew accompany us. As far as we observed, most places could accommodate us if we asked them to, but many of the local shops were closed because tourism has dropped drastically.

Where to stay?

We stated at Azul Beach Resort in Negril. We experienced fire performers, dancers, beach bonfire dinners, boat days and beachfront cabanas. This resort was fully open with some limitations to seating to social distance. Bars were open, restaurants were open and so was the gym!

Overall, visiting Jamaica during the pandemic was a badly needed vacation! I want to go back to explore local favorites like Port Royal. Until next time! xx
