Visit Cabo San Lucas During COVID-19

Liberty Netuschil January 5, 2021

Jetting off to Mexico is 2 short hours from LA to paradise, so why wouldn’t I vacation here?? It was a top destination for me prior to COVID-19 for it’s easy access, stunning location and affordability- clearly nothing has changed since I’ve been three times since the pandemic hit. My outline of what is required, the regulations and how it feels to be vacationing in Mexico during this worldwide crisis.

What is required?

-No COVID-19 test is required to enter the country

-A form is given at the airport if you’ve been exposed to COVID-19

-Immigration form (as usual)

What are the regulations?

Most hotels in Mexico are requiring a sanitation process when entering, including shoe sanitizing, temperature check and a machine that you walk into to sanitize your body (it’s kind of weird). Masks are required everywhere except when eating or drinking. Restaurants have their own regulations like: plastic wrap around food, plastic plates and utensils and all workers wear gloves and masks. Social distancing is encouraged, but when visiting the beach we didn’t notice any less beach chairs or regulations on masks.

What is open?

When I visited Cabo in March 2020, mostly everything except restaurants were closed. There wasn’t any water sports available and private charters were the only boats you could to take out. The hot spot of Cabo, Squid Row, was completely shut down. However, when I recently visited again in December 2020, it seemed like everything was open again besides nightclubs. Everything along the beach (Mango Deck, The Office, SUR Lounge etc) were all open. Jet skis, paddle boards and boats were available to rent on the beach again. Restaurants were open but I would highly recommend a reservation.

There are so many gems to stay! Here’s a list of my favorite spots:

-The Cape

-Nobu Hotel

-Waldorf Astoria

-A villa in Pedregal

Overall, Mexico has been insanely popular for a quick retreat before and during COVID-19 for obvious reasons. They aren’t requiring tests and a vacation here is close to normal with minor changes. I love Mexico and always enjoy it!
